Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can make an appointment directly with an osteopath without a GP referral.
Can I claim osteopathic treatment through my private health fund?
Yes. Private health funds will cover part of the consultation fee under their extras package. As health funds vary in the exact amount they will cover please contact your insurer for further details.
A HICAPS terminal is available at Port Fairy Osteopathy, you can claim the health insurance rebate at the time of consultation.
Should I bring my scans or x-rays with me?
Yes. Please bring any x-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, MRI scans or any other reports that are relevant to your symptoms.
Do you have EFTPOS?
Yes. Port Fairy Osteopathy has eftpos, credit card and HICAPS facilities available.
How long will my appointment take?
Your initial consultation will take 45 minutes. This will allow your osteopath to take a thorough history, to examine you and depending upon your condition, to treat you.
Follow-up consultations are 30 minutes.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, stretchy clothing is recommended. Depending on the area, you will be asked to remove some clothing for treatment, gowns are available.
What happens at my first treatment?
Your osteopath will ask about your problem and symptoms. This will include your medical history, any medications you are taking or other factors that may not appear to be directly related to your problem.
Your osteopath will conduct an examination and clinical tests. These include diagnostic, orthopaedic or neurological tests, movement and postural assessments, which determine how best to manage your condition.
Osteopaths provide a broad range of treatments. Osteopaths prescribe clinical exercises for you to do at home or work, provide manual therapy and lifestyle interventions.
